Perak Poor To Get Free Water From August
IPOH, July 7(Bernama) -- Beginning August, households in Perak with an income of less than RM750 a month will be entitled to 20 cubic metres of treated water at no charge every month, said Menteri Besar Perak Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin.
He said the state government had identified 15,000 such households and that it would cost the Perak Water Authority (LAP) RM2 million monthly to provide the facility.
"This is part of the Perak government's efforts to help reduce the burden of the lower income group, especially with prices of goods ever on the increase now," he told reporters here today.
However, the facility will only be enjoyed by households having individual water meters.
Perak is the second state after Selangor to provide 20 cubic metres of treated water free to the people. In Selangor's case, every household with individual meters is entitled to it.
Mohammad Nizar is also the chairman of the LAP.
Apart from the free water facility, Mohammad Nizar also announced that each child from the state who gained admission to a public institution of higher learning would be given a reward of RM1,000.
Successful students must personally bring the relevant documents and meet State executive councilor Nga Kor Ming to receive the reward.
